Pre-move Survey

A premove survey plays a vital role to build understanding between the moving and packing company and the client. Most of the companies conduct this survey free of cost and without any obligation to avail their services.

Just as each move is different, the parameters of this survey also vary from situation to situation. A few of the common activities undertaken during a pre move survey are:

• Assessing quantity of goods to be moved, along with weight, volume or both. Any additional item to be moved must be informed about to the surveyor at this point
• Discussing details like packing/moving schedule, destination access, heavy/bulky items handling etc. The special customer requests are recorded and all the concerns are addressed.

The discussions are combined with helpful suggestions. Specific pickup and delivery requirements of the clients are taken care of and accordingly, they are advised regarding the types and costs of services available.

Moving costs are based on total volume (measured in cubic feet) or weight of the personal belongings. Keeping in mind the destination of move, whether within the city, elsewhere in the same country or out of the country, the company's surveyor visits the clients premises, home/office, to give comprehensive cost analysis along with the best mode of packing and moving.

In most cases, the difference is around 10% between the actual and estimate given at this point,if complete disclosure is given to the company officers. Some companies also give a "premove kit" after this survey which has the necessary checklists and packing information. This handy worksheet helps the customer compare estimates from different movers.
