Associations and Standards

Movers Associations, Movers and Packers Associations, whether in India, USA, UK or other countries are formed with the sole objective of spreading knowledge and understanding of the issues involving individual/employees/corporate mobility and to enhance industry performance standards by communication and education. Some of the important associations and certifying agencies in the moving and packing industry are as follows:

American Moving And Storing Association (AMSA)

This the the most prominent professional trade association for the moving and packing industry of the United States. Headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, this association represents 3,000 van lines, independent moving companies and suppliers.

Household Good Forwarders Association of America, Inc (HHGFAA)

This is another non-profit trade association of movers and forwarders of the US. Recently renamed International Association of Movers (IAM), this association has memberships of 2,000 companies in the U.S. spread over 170 countries. It was formed to providing customers with the highest level of moving and packing services to move you wherever life may take you.

Canadian Association of Movers (CAM)

Based in Ontario, Canada, this is Canada's trade association representing moving and storage companies. The associations comprise movers and relocation companies, international movers both in Canada and overseas, van lines, suppliers to the moving industry and trade associations in other countries.

Employee Relocation Council (ERC)

Also known as the worldwide ERC, this is a relocation services association having the memberships of more than 12,000 (till 2005) relocation professionals. The members who are global workforce mobility specialists are involved in the movement of employees within the US and between all other countries. They took into consideration the current issues and management practices for employees before helping them to move. The association is headquartered in Washington, DC, with a European bureau in Brussels, Belgium.

International Standard Organization (ISO)

This is the association for providing International Standards for Business, Government and Society. An ISO certification held by any movers and packers company gives a good name and reliability of the organization.

FIDI Accredited International Mover (FAIM)

This is the first industry certification for international movers. It was developed by by FIDI in 1997. Considered to be the most stringent, all encompassing quality guarantee programme for the international moving industry.

Latin American & Caribbean Movers Association (LACMA)

This is a democratic association for movers founded in 1969. Comprising experienced and prestigious moving and relocation companies from Latin America, and all other parts of the world, LACMA is known for its constant innovation in moving and packing services. The headquarter of this association is in Panama.

British Association of Movers (BAR)

BAR was formed to promote the development of professional moving services in the UK. BAR members follow the OFT (Office of Fair Trading) "code of practice" which is designed to provide best moving and packing service for customers.

The European Academy of Relocation Professionals (EARP)

This is the training body for the European Relocation Industry.

The Association of Belgian Relocation Agents (ABRA)

This is a non-profit movers association established in 2001. The association was formed to uphold the highest standards of quality and professionalism in the Belgian relocation industry.

The Association of Relocation Professionals (ARP)

This is the body for relocation providers in the UK and overseas. The members provide services to major companies moving employees in and out of the UK. They also provide services to private clients who are looking for a new home.

The European Relocation Association (ERA)

Headquarted in Brussels, this is an association to provide support and advice for relocation professionals, to provide training for new entrants to the moving industry and regular arrangement of conferences for the exchange of industry information, training, etc.

International Shippers Association (ISA)

This is a cooperative buying group for international movers, headquartered in Washington, DC. Affiliated with HHGFAA and IAM.

The Syndicat National des Professionels de la Relocation et la Mobilite (SNPRM)

Also a founding partner of the EARP, SNPRM is the body for relocation in France.

Swiss Association of Relocation Agents (SARA)

This is the body for relocation professionals across Switzerland. SARA also provide EARP accredited training programmes.
