Moving Packing Tips
March
19, 2010 -Moving home is in itself a great task. Packing your
belongings, perhaps, takes most of your efforts and time while actually
executing your moving plan. There are some really smart tips for packing
that can make your whole moving a pleasant experience. Know these moving
packing tips and get relief from all your mental stress.
Plan What to Pack- Taking those items with you that have no use will
not only make your packing efforts double (even more than that) but also
will cost you more (remember you have to pay for all your packed items
placed in the moving truck!) So, plan what to pack! If your move is a
temporary one, you might like to take only few things with you and if you
are moving permanently also, sort out the things you do not use anymore.
Also there are certain
non-secure items
(items not to be packed) that are not allowed to transport. Don't
waste time in packing them.
Get the Right Packing Supplies- This is one of the packing tip that
most of the people do not care for and have to run around at the last
moment. Gather all the essential packing supplies beforehand (after you plan
what to pack) according to your requirement. Get moving boxes of all sizes-
small and large, labels, packing tapes, special boxes for fragile and
valuable items etc. Read more about
packing
supplies to have a clear idea about them.
Tips for Packing Boxes- Do not make the packed moving boxes too
heavy. A packed box ideally should not weigh more than 50 pounds ( approx.
23 kg). Ensure that all your packing boxes close properly and are sealed in
a way that makes their tops flat. Make an inventory or packing checklist of
each packing box and its contents. Keep this list handy so that you can
refer to it anytime as it will essential if a box goes missing and you need
to make a claim. Pack a separate box having the tools that you will need to
reassemble furniture and mark it clearly and in bold.
Now is the turn of actual packing tips- the tips for packing all your small
and big and medium sized items as well as liquids and other loose items.
- Always place the heavier items on the bottom of the packing box.
- Pack smaller items in small packing boxes. Place these small boxes
into a large box. This will save you the effort of handling undue
numbers of boxes.
- Always pack the items from the same room together as far as possible.
- Paste labels having information of the box contents. You can also
write it down on the box but use a water proof color marker.
- Stuff the fabrics like socks, scarves, pillow cases etc, in the gaps
that are created in between the items packed in boxes. This will save
you extra boxes to be packed for such small fabrics and will secure the
items at one place in the box.
- Try to avoid moving liquids. However, if you must, transfer the
liquids into a container that can be sealed tightly. You can even secure
the lid of the container by taping it down. After packing liquids in
this way, place them into a waterproof bag and seal the bag too. Place
these sealed bags containing liquid upright into a box. Clearly mark the
box having indicating arrows that show "This End Up". Do not
pack any hazardous liquid that are not permitted for carrying while
transportation.
- Pack all your daily need items like toothpaste and brush, towel,
soap, medicines etc. in a separate box. Try to move it with you and not
with other items in the moving truck. However, if you cannot carry this
box with you, label it "Load last, unload first" so that you
are not deprived of the very essential items just after reaching your
new home.
One of the most useful packing tips is to involve all your family members
in the task of packing household goods. This will make the work of packing
faster. Just remember to divide the jobs equally and tactfully (its better
if each person packs the items of his/her room). Hope these packing tips
will save your time and energy.
