Tips to Move Computer Safely

May 29, 2010- Computers fall in the category of fragile items and as such you need to take utmost care while moving your computer from one place to another for whatever reasons it may be. Here are some tips to move computer during relocation.

• Always save the original boxes in which the computers and its various parts came when you purchased it. To pack computers in these boxes is the safest way to protect them while moving as they are specifically manufactured for keeping computers safe during transportation.
• If you have not kept the original boxes then you have this option of finding specialty boxes made for computers and other electronic goods. Before purchasing any specialty box, measure the dimensions of your computer and its accessories so that you get the right sized box for moving computer.
• Get moving insurance for your computer too along with your other household goods. This will be required in case your computer gets damaged while moving.
• Before moving computer, copy all your required data from it to a DVD or flash drive. Taking backup always help in any unwanted incidence of files getting damaged while moving your computer.
• Before you pack computer, ensure to remove all the disks from the computer drives.
• For packing computer, you will have to take out all the cables and detach the computer parts so that they can be safely packed and moved to the desired destination. So, first of all switch the power off and then start dismantling computer.
• Pack your computer cables in different poly bags or cloth bags so that they do not get entangled with each other. If you are not very well aware of the functions of the computer cords and in what sockets they go in, label them properly so that you can attach them in the right manner afterwards.
• Ensure to use bubble wraps and other protective packing supplies like foam etc. when you pack computer so that the monitor of your computer and other fragile parts stay intact while moving computer.
• When you finish with packing computer, remember to mark the box in bold letters “Fragile Computer Equipment Inside” and "This Side Up."
