Unpacking Tips
20 April 2010- Packing may be tiring but unpacking is tiresome too. And if you don't stay organized right from the time you pack or unload truck, you are set to invite some real trouble for you. Read these moving tips- more accurately said unpacking tips- in the form of step by step guide on how to unpack after a move and create lesser mess as well as save time and effort that goes into unpacking all your household goods.

Get Home Plan and Plan Unpacking Accordingly

If you can, you must obtain plan of your new home before moving into it. This way, you can plan about arranging your furniture and other things in the new home. Also, you can load the moving truck according to the rooms in your new house. For example, if the bedroom is the last room and the kitchen comes before it, you can load the bedroom boxes first and the kitchen boxes after them. However, certain most essential items like daily medicines, towel, soap etc. should be packed in a specially labeled box and loaded last so that it could be unloaded and unpacked first.

Place the Right Box in Right Room for Unpacking

When unloading, place boxes in the right rooms so that you may save upon your efforts in searching them. However, this will need organized packing and labeling at the first instance. So, get aware of smart packing tips so that you may unpack smartly as well.

Unpacking Essentials First

Some things are more needed than others after a move. These things include furniture like bed, kitchen ware like gas stove and certain basic utensils, bathroom accessories like soap, toothpaste, towel etc. If you have planned your packing and unpacking right at the beginning, you would have organized these boxes carefully and separately. Unpack them first. You may go in this order- start with unpacking and organizing kitchen, then bathroom, and then bedrooms. Unpacking of other things can wait for the second or subsequent days.

Unpacking and Organizing Kitchen

You have already placed all the boxes marked “kitchen” in your new kitchen. At the first instance, if you are not getting food from outside, unpack the essentials for cooking first like pots and pans, coffee pot, toaster, stove etc. The other utensils, cutlery, jars etc. can be unpacked afterwards and arranged in the kitchen cupboards subsequently.

Unpacking and Arranging Furniture

If you have planned beforehand about arranging furniture based on your home plan, you can simply unpack and place all the furniture in the bedrooms, living room and dining room accordingly. However, if you could not get the house plan before, you must spend some time before unloading your truck and plan instantly about placing your furniture. This way, you can ask the labor to put the furniture exactly at places where unpacking is to be done. You will spare yourself from moving heavy furniture again and again from one place to other. Once at the desired place, the furniture just needs to be unpacked and assemble there only.

Unpacking of 'Not so Essential' Things

There are many things that, although useful for your home, can be unpacked at later time as they generally are not needed in the first few days after a move. These include such things as those of patio or a garage that you can unpack at your own leisure. Unpacking garage tools might also need extra shelves, storage boxes etc. that you can arrange for before unpacking garage items.
The above unpacking tips are meant for making you understand how to unpack after a move in the easiest way. However, unpacking will leave you somewhat tired even if you plan your unpacking. If you think, this is too much work and if you can afford, you may even hire unpacking services provided by most of the moving companies.
