Moving into Studio Apartment

In any kind of relocation there are so many things to do that it sometimes looks like a daunting task. Every now and then there are new tasks that needs your attention with older ones still hovering over your head. Only clear timetable and checklist can save you from going mad during move. Here is the simple checklist for moving into studio apartment or any other place.
One Month Before Moving
- Visit the post office to get the change of address kit and notify the address change to friends and family, your insurance companies, credit card companies, banks, past employers if you need W2 forms, magazine and newspaper delivery and your doctor. Also cancel the local newspaper delivery.
- Have a look at your home and check what you want to carry and what you want to dispose off. Make quick list of all these. The unwanted items can be given to charity or you can sell these also.
- If you want to hire the moving company then it is the time to get quotes from the selected moving companies. Get full explanation of their services. Also get the written estimates from at least three moving companies.
- If you are moving on your own then get information on rental trucks. What formalities are required to hire the truck and what will be the total cost around.
- Also get the packing material like boxes, masking tapes, newspapers, twine etc to pack the material for easy move.
- Start your packing well on time and make sure to pack one room at a time to avoid chaos later.
- Mark the room above the boxes so that there is no confusion while unpacking and rearranging it.
- Close your present bank account and start new bank account in new location. You can also transfer your existing account.
- If you have kids and they are studying then make proper arrangement for their schooling and classes.
Two Weeks Before Moving
- Collect all your important documents and keep these at one place. This will include your passports, birth certificate, marriage certificate, medical, school and tax records, stock certificates, vehicle titles and others. Disconnect the present utilities like electricity, gas, internet access, telephone, water and cable.
- Get these connected at new place.
- Check out your present insurance company and see if they will transfer the insurance coverage to new home or not.
- Get information on new state's licensing procedure and prevalent insurance rates.
One Week Before Moving
- Dispose off all the flammable items like lawn mower gas, snow blower gas, paint and aerosol items.
- Check out what will you carry in your car with you.
- If you have plants and pets then make the travel arrangements for them as well.
- Get your car serviced before move.

The Day Before Moving
- Clean your refrigerator by defrosting it.
- Clean your stove.
- Take down the curtains and curtain rods.
- Buy traveler's check if required.
- Keep the payment for mover ready.
- Get the things ready like food for morning, cold drinks on the way ready to avoid any delay.
- Get good sound sleep.
On the Moving Day
- Get the keys at one place.
- Check all the rooms one last time to ensure that you are not missing anything.
- Ensure that the moving driver has the correct new address, your phone number, contact details and right moving directions.
